You and Me and our PRECIOUS THREE!: June 2013

I've decided it's time to get back to blogging. I'm officially on hospital bed rest now (more on that later) so I can't really use the excuse that I don't have time anymore.

I'll dedicate this long overdue post to my work baby shower. It really is hard for me to put into words how perfect this shower was. My friends/coworkers Lisa, Sherry, Jenna, Diane, and Lori threw me the shower at Sherry's beautiful house and everything about it was just so cute and creative. The food and decorations all followed a literacy theme. We had fruit kabobs to go with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", veggie and ranch cups for "Peter Rabbit", little smokies to go with some super cute wiener dog books, queso to go with "Skippy Jon Jones", and "Olivia's Lemonade Stand" was put up next to the drinks. There was also a potty book in the bathroom and some bedtime books displayed on the mantle above a clothesline of baby PJs. All the guests brought a children's book instead of a card to go with their gift and there was a station set up for everyone to illustrate a page to put into an ABC book for the boys. It was super cute.

We got some great gifts including a $350 gift card to NFM to help us buy our nursery furniture, a bouncer, a rock-n-play sleeper, a little play gym, and many other cute and useful baby items. The most amazing gift of all came at the end after I thought I had opened everything. My friend Lisa handed me a gift bag. In it was a card from 30+ families of former students of mine. Lisa had contacted everyone I've ever taught in the last 5 years and told them about my situation and organized a group gift. Many families donated money and in the gift bag, I found an envelope of almost $1200. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude when I opened it. I didn't even know how to respond. Not only was I amazed at the generocity of these families, but knowing how much work Lisa went to to organize the whole thing just amazed me. I've never had someone do something so nice for me. These boys are so lucky to have such a great auntie!
